Geothermal Heating

Geothermal Heating has been around for over 20 years, in Sweden alone 40,000 systems are installed every year.

What is it ??

Apparently it is very simple.

A heat pump draws heat from underground, compresses it and then distributes it through our homes and businesses and in summer the process is reversed.

In an age where utility prices are constantly rising and older buildings are by their very nature harder and more expensive to heat, this is definately an area to which we should be looking.

This type of energy is not cheap to install BUT can save 40-70 % of both heating and "cooling" bills.

It seems to me that it is definately an avenue worth looking down.

  • The big question I suppose, is how viable is it in other parts of the world. I'm pretty sure it wasn't on my Council's list of things to look at around Leicester, UK. Wished it were. Anyone got any thories about rain power? We've got lots of that.
